All you need to get your iPod working is iTunes ( http://www.apple.com/itunes) and the Updater ( http://www.apple.com/ipod/download).

That's is.

I would have thought so but I'm having some problems.

I own a 1st gen 10gig pod Mac version (there were no windows ones when i got it). I usually use it with my TiBook but I did get Xplay to connect it to my PC. When iTunes PC came out I downloaded it straight away, as Xplay was ok but certainly no iTunes. I installed iTunes PC no worries but when I connected the pod it said "Ipod detected but no software installed. Please install the software that came with on your CD or download it from www.apple.com"

Now which software are they talking about? I downloaded the 1.3 updater but that doesn't do anything (I had updated my pod from my Mac ages ago). Any ideas? Please tell me I don't have to install that piece of #### Music match for it to realise there is an ipod there?

johnboy:

Just download the 1.3 Updater (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download) (make sure to grab the 1.3 version for your iPod).

Install it on the PC, run it and click the "Restore" button. This will convert your MiPod to a WiPod. You can then use iTunes on it no problem.

Well, if you have a 40GB you should be using the 2.1 firmware, not 1.3

You can use it on a Mac, but it's best to format it for use on a mac using the 2.1 Updater for mac.
