just my small contribute for the subj. :

I own a laptop with USB 2.0 (pcmcia adapter) and embedded Firewire, both plain vanilla (no power ..5v ?).

- docking station
- dual mode cable adapter (USB + Firewire) from Apple

Connected the propretary end of cable to the Docking station

Connected the USB end to the Laptop

Connected the firewire end to the AC adapter and plugged it to the 220V (here in Europe).

Put the Ipod (2gen 30 Mb) on the docking station and run the update program previously installed.

Everything OK, very smooth.

Only one question : where is the value added by this update ? The backlight is poor as usual (only 2 level..I miss a "night" level with soft light instead of the light of stage spot)

Apart from the battery meter, which I will monitor during the next days and the quiz game that when selected only stops the current song doing nothing more, I can't really find anything the upgrade was worth for...
