Cant Format iPod in MC 9.1

Hi:
I'm running the latest of MC 9.1 and can't within MC format my iPod. It recognizes it, but when I right click and get the Format button, it fails!
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Gary

You shouldn't be getting a format option. Are you right-clicking the iPod under CDs, DVDs and Handhelds. You should not be looking under My Computer at the iPod.

Also, make sure in My Computer, that the iPod's volume name is "IPOD". You can change this by right-clicking the iPod, in My Computer, selecting Properties. And change the Volume Name there.

Hi again:

I've renamed it to IPOD but when I want to format it under MC 9.1, when I click on format, the format fails. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Gary

You shouldn't be formatting the iPod at ALL.

If you want to clean the iPod...do a Restore w/the Apple Updater. It's not recommended to use Windows disk utilities with the iPod.

Is there a reason you want to format? You shoudl really just use Restore using the updater.

Adam:

Perhaps I'm REALLY confused, but I thought that in order to use MC 9.1, I first have to format the iPod to a special MC format. And, in fact, within MC, there is that option when I right click on the iPod.

Please let me know how I'm mistaking this.

As always, thanks.

You restore the iPod's firmware (format) with the iPod updater from Apple. You initialize the iPod with MC9 which puts all of the directories onto the iPod. You can initialize the iPod by right clicking on it in CD, DVD & Handhelds.

So, what are you trying to do?

I too am having the same problem as gsinger. when I right-click on the ipod icon under CD, DVD , and handhelds the only option I have is to format it. After I click on that I get a warning that it will erase all the data then I click ok. I immediately get a window saying that the format failed. I hope you can clear this up for both of us. Thanks

Redownload the latest version of MC9. Do not download any plugins for the iPod. They are included.

See if that fixes it.
