Ephpod crash after 2.1 install

Well, as my subject line suggests, Ephpod began to crash on me today. This all happened cause' after i downloaded and installed the new 2.1 firmware. After the install, i decided to wipe my ipod clean, restore it and then to re-load all the songs - so as to have a fresh install. I should have known. This is exactly what happens when one tries to fix something that ain't broke. In any case, i'm fairly sure it's due to the 2.1 install, but who really knows. Do you?

to be specific, here's what happens:
I am able to load songs onto the ipod from ephpod, but only if i probe a directory that has the mp3 directly in there. that is, when i probe a directory which has sub-folders, the ephpod shows the progression bar, which goes to about 20% and then hangs until, finally it crashes. Once I restart ephpod it acknowledges that it crashed and asks whether i want to probe for lost music. this does nothing. Can anyone suggest a fix?

thanks much.
