Fixed iPod Transfer Problems

Those of you who have been reading the forums lately have seen
posts from me complaining about Audible Manager hanging
during transfer.

I tried everything including installing a clean version of XP
on a new disk.

Still I had problems. I re-installed all the software so many times
I have worn my mouse out. I thought I at least had MMJB working
intil I tried to transfer over 200 songs at a time to the iPod and then it would simply tell me that the iPod was full even though
it showed 18 + GB free.

I decided to try iTunes for Windows. It looked pretty good,
I added over 6GB worth of tunes from MMJB into my library.

Then I copied 1 CD to the iPod.
Worked great. Tried 2 worked great.
Asked it to synch the whole library and it failed with
error (-69).

Unlike Audible Manager though, iTunes did not require stopping
and starting to recover. So, I started moving the 6GB to the
iPod 1 CD at a time. It would still hang every now and then,
but not too often.

I would cocky and try 2 CDs, but it would for sure hang.

Well, I was half way through my collection and I decided to try something that I should have done 2 weeks ago.

I have an Adaptec 3020 card with the firewire in the back. My case has a cable that connects to ports on the back and then
kind of replicates them on the front.

Given that you need that iPod dock cable when you go on the road to charge, I had been using the port on the front to connect.

I figured it was a longshot, but I disconnected the cable at the back of the PC and connected the iPod cable directly to that port.

The I put the iPod back in the dock and started slow.
1CD was OK, 2 CDs was OK. 3 and 4 seemed OK.
So, I just selected the remaining 400 songs and let it rip.

Went off without a hitch. So, then I "moved" all my Audible
content into my library and tried to download 7 books to the iPod.
2 of the books are unabriged Stephen King and 1 is unabriged Tom Clancy, so it amounted to about 1.5GB.

Transfered A-OK.

So now I do not know whether to stay with iTunes or go back and
try the other route. I guess I will stick it out for a while.

Anyway, the moral of the story is that if you are having trouble transferring files then rule out any cheesy "extension" cables that are in your system.

Finally a happy user.
