2.1 has screwed up my iPod!

I installed iTunes and the 2.1 firmware update. iTunes works great, but NONE of my other iPod apps work now. This includes XPlay (shows NO tracks). Anapod Explorer (sends error and says I need to reset my iPod), and Media Center 9 (CRASHES when I select the iPod). This is not cool... Anyone have any insight into this?

Thanks!

Eddie

Was wondering about that. They probably made some changes to the iPod's database. And since Apple doesn't tell anyone, especially 3rd Party software makers what the changes will be, they are stuck.

This is going to get messy...

I don't know if this will help with Media Center 9 as I don't yet have that, but there is a patch that will restore compatibility btwn iTunes and XPlay. (Actually, it's a registry entry)

Just click on this url to download the patch: http://download.mediafour.com/xplay/XPlay_reg_patch_for_iTunes4.1.reg

I found this patch in the xplay forums at: http://forums.mediafour.com/showthread.php?threadid=3255

It worked for me in restoring my ability to use XPlay after I had iTunes on there. Again, as far as whether this'll fix your MC9 compatability issues...well, your mileage may vary

Hope this helps!

Wow, they were quick to get that out...but I've read over at the JRiver boards that folks are using 2.1 fine w/MC9, so Phil's issue must have been a glitch somewhere else...

2.1 and MC9 work fine for me. (iTunes is another story :;)

well, the registry setting I posted fixes an incompatibility btwn iTunes and XPlay. Sounds like there's also one btwn iTunes and MC9. maybe the XPlay registry change resolves the MC9 prob too.. But I'd contact the makers of MC9 (and point out that XPlay already put out a patch to ensure compatibility)

Turns out MC9 works fine if iTunes is not installed. I uninstalled iTunes and it works like a charm. I applied the patch for XPlay, but that still doesn't work for me. When I double-click "XPlay Music" I get a blank window with the hourglass that never ends. It just hangs. Also I still can't get Anapod to work either...

hmmm... the patch totally worked for me (I was having the same problem as you with XPlay). You should go to the XPlay forum thread that the patch was posted on (the second link I posted in my initial msg) and let them know that, even with the patch, your XPlay no longer works. Hopefully someone over there will get it resolved for you!

Good luck! I can only imagine how frustrated you must be right now.

Thanks, I will do that. I am frustrated, but at least my iPod hasn't required re-formatting, and I can still listen to all of the stuff on it, so it could be worse...
