olume Levelling - Is it possible with MC9?

The one thing I like about MMJB is that it can do volume levelling. I can't seem to be able to make MC9 (which I consider a superior program) do the same thing. From what I have read about normalization, it's different than volume levelling.

Anyone have thoughts or tips to share about this?

Oh, it has it. And it has a much better version of it. The feature you're referring to in MC9 is called "Replay Gain". And its benefit is that it doesn't alter your source MP3s in anyway.

To use it, you first have to "analyze" all your tunes. This takes a while, so it's a good idea to do it overnight. Highlight all your tunes and select "Analyze". Or you can just go to the Auto Smartlist "Task - Needs Analysis". You can also do it in small batches.

Anyway, what that does is apply a Replay Gain value to each song of + or - dbs based off an 83db average. You can see the values by clicking on the column headers in any view and right-clicking, select Columns to Show>Replay Gain.

Next, to get the newly analyzed songs on the iPod, right click the iPod, select "Set Volume Adjustment". Tick off Apply Replay Gain, and adjust the volume boost to +12db. You do this because the 83db average is a little lower than what the iPod is typically used to.

Then sync w/the "Update Tags" option checked (you should always leave this checked). It will be a fast sync because the songs don't need to be recopied or anything, the db adjustment (replay gain value) is just applied to the iPod's database. Should take < 1 minute on a 15giger.

Forgive my stupidity but i'm having trouble with this.

"right click the iPod, select "Set Volume Adjustment". Tick off Apply Replay Gain, and adjust the volume boost to +12db. You do this because the 83db average is a little lower than what the iPod is typically used to. "

When I right click my ipod the only options I get are - show queued files only, play, add to playing now, explore, format ipod, rebuild database from ipod, synchronise files, eject device.

Where do I find the "Set Volume Adjustment" ?

ps - using version 9.0

Thanks
