Jukeboxes no good
am I the only person out there who finds music jukeboxes (such as MM or itunes) to be inferior to their music needs? Maybe I'm just not doing things properly (which could be the case), but I don't have time to individually tag 40GB of music files. I just downloaded itunes and tried importing just part of my music collection and it sorted my files all wrong. So then I tried doing it little chunks at a time, but even then it got track #s wrong, meaning I would have to go tag over 5,000 files to make sure they are in the right order. Then on top of that, I couldn't make temporary playlists without having to save them in a playlist file...which is a waste of time.
Now I may just be doing things wrong, which is very possible. But what I have always done is use MMJB as a player, but not as my music library. I just browse my music in windows and click on whatever I want to listen to at the moment and it plays. This works perfectly, though if I end up getting an ipod (which I would like to do), then I'm screwed.
I'm just venting here, and not really sure if there is anything I can do (unless someone spots something I am doing wrong with itunes or MMJB in order for the library to properly sort my music). But for some reason I just feel like I am the only person whose needs are not met by this method of sorting. The next ipods should just run on a windows os;)
sorry for the massively long post (for those of you who actually read this far)

Sorry, man - but tags are a fact of life. If you want to organize your music with a jukebos, you need to use them. I'm personally have over 50 hours invested in organizing my music - but you only need to do it once.
There are some tools out there than can help - I'm sure there are posts on them somewhere on this forum. MusicMatch's SuperTagging feature can be a big help also.

I agree... should use a windows or some sort of visual OS =)
I choose my songs from folders i've created and sorted through different levels of directories...
It'd be sweet if one of those palm pilots had 10+GB of storage... i'd be all over one... touch screen... create on the fly playlists... dont have to worry about tags... can even name and rename songs...
wee!!!

To chime in here, I think iTunes is lacking in a number of ways, but I think you'd find that if you took the time to tag your tunes (there are automated ways), once that's done, a Music Library management program makes it so much easier to navigate around your libray.
I use MC9 and it can get to a song in a second to play and it's so much easier than navigating through folders etc.
I think once you make the change you'd be amazed at how you lived without it.
