MC9 vs I-Tunes
So, the time has come!
Do I make the switch? Do I let itunes search and add my tunes to its library? Will this create duplicate copies of the tunes on my PC?
Pros? Cons?
Can one buy tunes from Apple and play them within MC9? I can't seem to find out what format the tunes will be in if I purchase them from Itunes.

The debate begins. :D
I've installed it. There's a board here on the lounge if you want to see what others have been saying.
Haven't tried syncing as I'm not at home.
It won't create dupes or anything, it works just like MC9 does, it searches your PC (specifically your "My Music" folder) for tunes and add them to it's library. The libary contains pointers to the files that exist on your HDD.
The tunes you download from Apple will be in AAC format, which at this point MC9 doesn't support. Big bummer there.

WIll MC9 support AAC from library mgmt perspective?? Example, if I have an AAC dl from Apple, can I use MC9 to sync w/iPod...
Anyone??

Be SURE to go to Preferences and de-select "Copy songs to iTunes music folder", and probably "Keep iTunes folder organized" as well.

Yeah. It's not so much that they have to support iTMS-protected AAC files - I probably won't buy a whole lot off there.
All I want them to do is add support for tagging (and they don't even need to friggin' tag the files themselves - just in the MC9 library, and write that same info to the iPod). Surely there's not a legal/$$$ issue around that.
MC9's going to lose some users as it is. Failure to support AAC (even as a reasonably-priced add-in) will be a dealbreaker for me.

MC can play normal AAC by using the Winamp plug-in.
But that won't help in this case, because Apple's AAC is "special". There is what they've called "light DRM" applied.

MC9 can play AAC via 3rd party directshow filter (3ivx codec/ COREaac) but MC9 cannot read or modify tag or upload aac file t iPod.

MC Now seems to be able to play AAC files w/o too many problems. It's getting better by the day. I believe that you have to have QuickTime installed though.

More specifically, I think you need to have QT 6.4 installed. If you install iTunes, it'll include that as part of the deal (and if you have QT Pro already, it'll upgrade you).
As of build 9.1.286, purchased iTMS (m4p) files are working in MC9, but do not work when synced to the iPod (they sync, but will not play back). Supposedly, tomorrow's build will fix that.

Ben,
The playback issue should be resolved with MC 9.1.289. You will need to reimport the AAC files into MC for the solution to work. If the files are on iPod already, delete them.
