Transferring Ownership

When you dad hooks up the ipod it will likely tell him it is linked to another computer and if he would like to make this computer the primary computer. In saying yes it will proceed to erase the songs that were there and then sync to his itunes library.

What I would suggest doing is making a restore to this ipod you are passing on to your dad once you have your new ipod synced and all music arranged. This way the ipod you will give your father will be clean and ready for him to sync music to. To rename, have the ipod mounted and change the name like you would any other file/drive.

Buy running the software updater program for 1.3 for the second gen ipod. Download from the apple site if you no longer have it on the computer.
