A question about synching

I just got my ipod yesterday and am still as excited as when I was waiting for it.

Been fiddling with it all night and sorting out some playlists etc. I had the duplicate songs problem which I was able to remedy by re synching my ipod and also adding the correct path names in the configuration.

However I just got a few more questions, so thanks in advance to all that help a proud new ipod owner out :D

1) do I have to resync my ipod with ephpod everytime I want to add a new batch of songs + playlists to avoid duplicate productions. Or do I just use the add song/dir for adding one or two songs then just resync every now and then.

2) (not ephpod related) - Ive never used a firewire device before, and my Firewire ports are onboard, im getting between 5.8 and 6.2MB/sec transfer rates when im syncing/transferring songs over to the ipod, does that sound about right or is my fw working slow?

Once again thanks to all those who reply, I'll prolly be back soon enough with more questions but hey, thats what n00bs are for eh!

Cheers!

Well congrats on the new pod and welcome to the lounge. Now down to business:

1. You can do either. When I used to use ephpod, I liked to use the add songs cause the sync was fickle. It's up to you though. Whatever you feel works for you then do that. If you don't want the duplicates in the future then do the sync.

2. That is fast. It is not running slow at all. I usually get between 4 and 5 with my firewire. Be happy with the speed you have.

thanks man!

Think I wil;l just be doing the add songs instead of syncing. One more thing tho, if I add songs via the add songs button, then add a playlist which has the new songs which I have just added, will that produce duplicates on the ipod?

And what software do you use now?

It will produce duplicates, but you won't see them in the browse listing. You won't be able to see them on the iPod, but it will take up extra space.

I use MC9 now. It has to be the best program out there. There are a few of us on the board that use it and we have nothing but praises for it.

cool, gonna grab it now, what kinda stuff can u do on it?

Im also wondering what all the fuss is about iTunes, ive never seen it in action and know nothing about it, whats so good about it?

Well iTunes is currently a Mac program. My mom has it and likes it. But MC9 blows it out of the water. When iTunes comes out, there will be some competition between the two.

MC9 can do it all. It can be used to organize your library, works with your iPod, has tv tuner capabitity, radio tuner, rips and burns cds, etc. This program is top notch. The only bad part is it's $40, but it is definitely worth it.

well I'll def. give it a try.

I know i might be asking a bit much here, but can u email me or post a quick tutorial on how to use MC9 with my Ipod. cuz I installed it and I was just so confused as to wat to do...

Esp. with regards to syncing etc etc. Do I run the risk still of duplicates if I was to use MC9?

OH and one more thing, if I decide to just continue to use Ephpod, what advantages does syncing have over just dragging and dropping files in?

Go here for help. It should all be there. If not let me know. You should not get duplicates at all with MC9.

With the syncing you will have less problem with duplicating files. If you drag and drop and then sync you are prone to getting duplicates.

I do not believe that MC9 is compatable with winamp playlists since in MC9 you can make your own. But don't take my word on that since I don't work with winamp at all. If you PM dmt1 (chris) or ashawley (adam) they should be able to give you an answer on that.

To answer your Winamp question. MC9 will replace Winamp for you. It does everything and more. So, you'll just move your playlists into MC9. Most likely you'll start making smartlists instead of Playlists (although you might have a few) as smartlists are much easier...

yea I think im gonna just start using MC9...

ive just been messing with the batch tag editor to help me just organise my MP3's a little better. Another question about the syncing, if I sync with the Ipod, then change the tags on my pc, the next time I sync, will it change the tags on the Ipod?
vashz at 2007-11-15 17:33:27 >
# 15 Re: A question about synching
Yes it will. Just make sure you check update tags when you do it.

# 16 Re: A question about synching
Yeah, and don't forget the reverse syncin (iPod to MC9), this will get the iPod's playcounts, ratings and last played date to update MC9's library so your smartlists will be refreshed w/what you listened to on your iPod.

Check out the MC9 board if you have questions etc. There's a sticky on it.
