Problems with uploading files: disappearing

Hello everyone!
I am here asking for some help and support 'cause there are some things I really don't understand about my iPod and MC9.1

It happens often that when I upload some music to it, then it doesn't show on the iPod!
For example, I had ripped two original albums I own with MC9.1,
tagged them and everything, and then use the Send to: command
to transfer them into my ipod. I press the Upload button and I can see the files being transferred. When then I disconnect the ipod and browse the list, the albums aren't there!!! So I try and reconnect my iPod and when I scroll the file list in MC9.1 the files are actually there!!! This thing happened not only once and I've got the same problem with playlists! I synchronize my ipod with 2 playlists I have and once they're there, once they disappear even if I haven't done anything!!
What can I do to solve this prob? It's starting to get on my nerves really, apart from the fact I'm not totally satisfied with ipod quality and features! For what it costs they could have given much more imho!

Thanks for any reply!

Take Care!

Instead of using "send to", I'd recommend synching instead--works much better, doesn't take that much longer then sending stuff over, and from my newbie experience here on the boards, appears to be MUCH less buggie...

hello!
Thanks for your reply and sorry for the late re-reply.
I find it hard to use synching 'cause it seems only to work if one uses playlists and I don't use them!
Would it be a way to create a playlist with all the music?

Thanks again

If you are using the latest version of MC9 (maybe even not quite latest?) you should have an auto smartlist for All Music under the playlist group. Sync with that list checked and your entire library will be on your iPod.

I think that transfering to the iPod the way you did only copies the files to it, and does not register it into the iPod's music database. I am pretty much a newbie with MC9 but that is how I think it works.

Yeah, you can use the "All mp3" autosmartlist, or for practice, create one of your own...

What I do is have a playlist GROUP, titled "Ipod". After forming the playlist group, right click on it to add playlists--make one titled "All mp3"--only rule should be "filetype--mp3". Use that one to synch all your tunes...

Then, go ahead and add smartlists/playlists to your hearts content, just put them in the Ipod playlist group, and everything is nice and tidy; makes synching all your songs--with the all mp3 smartlist, and the rest of your playlists a breeze...

Thanks for your tips guys!!
I tried what you suggested to do and now everything seems to be okay except for other playlists I had created and that haven't been transferred onto my iPod! :(
So now I can see my All music smartlist, obviously the On-the-go default one, and like an empty one with no name and no content!
What am I doing wrong again!?

Also another strange thing that happened! I tried using the sync thing for the "last played" songs from the iPod to MC9. When I did that, many songs on MC9 appeared like if they had been played something like -1,34384388943 mins ago! Is that a prob with the beta version!?

Thanks again for all your support!!

I have actually had that issue a number of times too and would love to know what happens. I normally just restore/initialise and do it again but there has to be another way.

Had you thrown the Ring into the pit when you had the chance Isildur, we wouldn't be having this discussion. ;)

But, you can check any and all of the playlists in MC to be synched, and they will then show up on the iPod. So if you created a playlist called My Top 100, then check the box next to it in the transfer window.

Note: if you have the "delete files not in synch" box at the bottom of the transfer dialog is checked, any songs on your iPod and not in at least 1 of the transfering playlists will be removed from the iPod. This feature is helpluf when your collection is larger than the capacity of the iPod.

As to the weird last played number it might be a bug, but here is what I did to clean it up.
In your media library, add the column for last played and play count.
Sort by last played and all of those bad numbers will be grouped at the top or bottom of the list. Select the first one in the list and scroll to the bottom of the list and shift+select it to get all of the files.
Right-click and select tag info from the popup.
In the action area the tag information will open up. Right click and select either Show All Fields or File Info.
Click on the last played field, a "clear" button will appear, click on it and it will reset to never played. The same applies for the number of plays since if you have never played a song, the number should be 0 also.

After you do that all of your play counts over 0 should have a correct last played field. At this point you might want to back up your library. I did not format my iPod before transfering and had a few files that were incorrect after the next time I synched the iPod info into MC, so I would suggest initializing the iPod in MC again. Then synch and your playlists and correct playing information shoud be there.

Search the boards and you will find detailed information by people much smarter than I about most of this.

thanks again for your replies guys!!!
Yeaah i should have thrown that ring but then Peter Jackson wouldn't have made such cool movies! :p
Maybe I should throw my iPod into the fire instead!!

I've analysed better the problem with the missing playlists and noticed that when I try and sync them with my iPod, MC9 crashes and quits! It didn't do it with the previous version I had.
I've downloaded the latest beta version and I have got still 7 days before it expires! Could this halting be the cause of my synching problems?

Thanks again also for the "last played" tip! I had done that already and I was just wondering if the weird number was a bug or not hehe

Thanks again guys!
