I cant see mi Ipod

Hello. i have a new Ipod 40GB from yesterday. it works ok as ipod but wen i connect it with my G4 through firewire (with dock) in MacOs X 10.2.8 and Itunes 4 my mac can;t see the ipod. it start charging but nothing alse. the device isn;t viewable from the mac.tha same hapent if i connect it in PC platform. The Ipod is new and empty from music with 2.0.1 firmware.
Do you have any idea about wat hapent?

Have you chosen the option "enable firewire disk use"?

And open "iTunes when attached"?
