itunes and my ipod have had a falling out... any suggestions?
It had been a while since I had synced my ipod with my itunes library, but I decided to do it yesterday, since I had added some new songs. Itunes launched and begain to update my ipod (2nd generation, 20gig model), as usual, but before it began to transfer any new songs, itunes quit unexpectedly. I tried restarting my computer (400 mhz slot-loading imac), tried restarting my ipod, and tried trashing my itunes prefs, but every time I tried to connect my ipod to itunes, itunes would crash. I even did a fresh software restore on my ipod, but the problem persisted. Fortunately, I was able to get my music back on my ipod by connecting to the external harddrive with all my music to my ibook and using that to synch my ipod (my ibook's copy of itunes didn't have any crashing issues), but that took an awful long time.
I'd like to get back to using my imac as the central connection point for my ipod. I've read a few posts that people have written on how to deal with such a problem, but none of their advice has helped. Anyone have any fresh new suggestions?
(BTW, it wasn't too long ago that I updated to both OS 10.2.8 and itunes 4.1... My guess is that this switch may be at least partly responsible for my woes...)

I'm not sure if this is related to your problem or not, but os10.2.8 is riddled with problems. I recently had to rollback to 10.2.6 as 10.2.8 lost the ability to detect external drives (such as my ipod or flashdisk), after the system had gone into sleep mode while one was connected. There was, apparently, no other fix for this problem other than reinstallation.
