Do Not Disconnect, again

Hello all:
I've been reading about "Do Not Disconnect" problems but haven't been able to clearly understand what to do. I am a brand new iPod user, like one day-old.

I have a new 20G iPod (v2.01) running on a MAC G5/OSX2.8, with iTunes 4. When I put the Pod in the dock, it automatically updates in iTunes, but then it just blinks "Do Not Disconnect" endlessly. The battery icon in the upper right corner is showing as fully charged, and it never reverts to the icons it shows in the book: the large charge or the menu screen. I've been dragging the icon into the trash from desktop to release the Pod, but this doesn't seem quite right.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I damaging the Pod by dragging the icon into the trash?

Many thanks for any input.

When the iPod is mounted, the "Do Not Disconnect" is normal. To remove the iPod from the dock or FW cable you need to to one of two things. You can click and drag the iPod icon on the desktop to the trash or click on the eject button if Itunes is opened. You're not harming your iPod in any way.
