Write protection

Was wondering about copy protected CDs after reading the Stereophile article on the main page. I've found that certain CDs (Linkin Park's Meteora, Diana Krall, new Cardigans) can't be ripped using iTunes on my Powerbook and I was wondering how to get around this?

Some comments on the article mentioned using the shift key to bypass the controls on the CD but it this for PC, Mac or both?

Do I have to use a different utility or should I try ripping them with Winamp on my wintel machine and then transferring them over?

- Apologies if this is a silly newbie question but I've tried searching the forums to no avail -

Ok further searching led me to the thread in the music forum. Its seems there's no real software solution for disks that won't read at all on the Mac and there's no way in hell I'm putting CDs with tape stuck on them in the Powerbook's drive :(

Well on a PC, you can bypass it but you need some software(s) to do so. If you use a cloning cd program it *might* take the music off the cd (and not all the other stuff) and put it on a cd-r and then you can rip the Cd-R. Not sure about Mac's...
