Hi!
You don't have to update to os x...
Here's an apple document for running your ipod with mac os 9.2.1
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120153
And one on ipod system requirements:

I'm using my g3 iPod with OS 9.2 right now.
I didn't have to update or change any software, i just used it straight out of the box. Works in OSX too (obviously), what i mean is, i switch from my 9.2 mac at home to my mac at work which runs 9.2 and OSX without any problems at all :)

I have a 3rd Gen 10 gig iPod that works in OS 9.2.2. I don't sync it because all of the music already on it is in the AAC format.

I've just updated my iPod, iTunes and OSX to their latest versions (2.1, 4.1, 10.2.8 respectively) and now i've booted up in OS9 my iPod won't show in iTunes :(
It still mounts on the desktop though. I listen to music in iTunes (in OS9) while working, so this is a pain. Is this how it is after the update, or am i doing something wrong?
Guess i better get updated to OSX at home afterall!
And with the new Quark on the way soon, we'll be using OSX all the time at work too :)
Still, annoying in the meantime.

My 3g 2.1 ipod also will not show up in my os9 iTunes 2.0.4. at work, although it mounts on the desktop. It is fine on my home OSX.
So, are the majority of people not experiencing this since the 2.1 update? My initial thought was, Apple has finally pulled the plug on iTunes for os9. Is this just DaveL and myself here?

I also think they've finally pulled the plug on iTunes for OS9 with an iPod.
Still, it's nice that it is still a mountable volume, as i can still use it for transporting - but it's a shame about iTunes, as i work in OS9 all day long.
Oh well.
Gonna upgrade to OSX at home tonight! :D
I just got a 27gb HDD from a guy here, so i'm gonna put that in too, and keep my 6gb HDD to startup from in OS9 should i need to :) Woooo.
Looking forward to having OSX (and on Friday, Panther) at home. Although my G3 will struggle to cope with some Panther things (i won't try and have two user accounts running simultaniously for example, it would go kaboom i think ;) )
