Storing iPod Music Library on Another Partition

G3 300 running OS 10.2
30 GB hard drive in 2 partitions:
OS X partition is 8GB
OS 9 partition is 22 GB

Is there a way to put the music library onto the OS 9 partition?

I duplicated the iTunes folder onto the other partition, but don't know how to make iTunes read from the other partition. It looks like it will only reference the folders on the OS X partition.

I have lots of space on the OS 9 partition, but the OS X partition is almost full. I have about 900MB of music now and the rest of the first partition is filled with applications. I realize I could reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything from my backup hard drive, but I would prefer to just use the space as it is.

Thanks for taking the time. This looks like a very well run Forum. I have a lot to learn about the iPod. :)

This Apple kbase document walks you through all of the steps of transferring your music folder to a new partition (or external hard drive or another location on your mac). You have to create your new music folder in this fashion in order for iTunes to recognize the new location. These steps copy your entire library to the new folder, and tells iTunes to always look to the new folder for the song files.

I did this to transfer my 18GB music folder from my Powerbook to an external hard drive and it worked great.

Good luck!

Thanks, that worked just like you said.

On the negative side, my rip speed has dropped from 2.4x down to about 1.4x whether I use the internal CD or the external high-speed CD.

Don't know why. But it is obviously much slower on every CD.

Again, my thanks.
