iPod locked up with padlock on LCD...
Don't know why... haven't used my ipod for like a week, the battery needed charging, so I plugged it into my dock tonight and away I went... leaving it to re-energize...
But no! I'm using 10.2.8 [the latest version] and I wonder if that has anything to do with things. No matter what I do, it has the HOLD padlock on the LCD screen... so effectively the whole ipod is locked up, ALL THE TIME.
Have tried a system restore, same result... blank ipod, still a padlock on the screen. Anyone else have the same problem? Will be calling Apple tomorrow but somehow I feel 10.2.8 screwed with my ipod...

This is a strange thing. I'm sure you've already done the obvious and flipped the hold switch to off.
I'd reccomend running over to the discussion forums on the apple site to see if this is a thing people have been seeing with 10.2.8
Good luck,
Stu

Try going into your ipod settings in itunes and choosing either auto-update or manually update whichever is the oposite to what you have now then unmount your ipod, reset and then go back into ipod settings in itunes and restore your settings. I helped a friend with the same problem and this fixed it! Good Luck!

Have same problem, fixed by going into Ipod options while docked showing in Itunes padlocked, just go into the Itunes options for player at the lower right corner & click on Manually manage songs & playlists, press ok and that should take care of it, it did it for me, later

I had this problem earlier today. The metal case of the iPod was somehow not snapped on correctly (I have never taken it off), and I was just holding my iPod and I pushed it back on, heard it snap back into place and I was able to unlock the iPod. So see if there are any gaps around the case between the white and the metal and wiggle it around a bit.
Just a thought.
