Song encoded with iTunes has a skip in it

Is there a way to ensure that songs encoded with iTunes do not have errors? One of the songs I encoded has a little skip in it, even though the source CD has no scratches and plays fine and iTunes gave me no indication of any problems during the encoding process.

Also, I encoded at AAC 224kb.

Thanks!

Sorry... I should've specified that I had "Use error correction when reading audio CDs" checked. Any other ideas?

try re-ripping it.

i found a glitch in a file, re-ripped it and it was gone. i might have ben doing something that was fighting iTunes for resources when it happened.

i rip at 256aac.

Yeah, I'll rerip it... this is pretty disconcerting, even if that fixes this specific glitch. It'd be nice if iTunes' error correction actually checked for this type of problem... I'd be more than willing to take a encoding-speed-hit to ensure that this doesn't happen.

Is there a more reliable encoder out there?

not sure if you're ripping to aac. from what i've seen here iTunes/QT's "better" setting is all you need for CD audio. any higher source bitrate and you should use QT Pro's "best" setting. until you're past CD audio bitrates though, it's pointless.

for what it's worth, i don't use error correction. i'm using a 1 gig athlon, with 1.1 gigs of ram (might be overkill, but i don't care), and a TDK 5200B burner. iTunes only ever seems to get up to 5.6x ripping though.

so far i've found 1 error in a file for an unknown reason and 1 error due to the CD source being made from old analog masters. i haven't reripped it, but i might. at this point it sounds like the encoder made an analog tape "crackle" into a digital "pop."

use other software for ripping. CDex is a very good application for ripping

Do a search in this forum for CDex. I've linked it in other threads.

mGee: Does CDEX encode AAC? I've been using it to encode MP3s for years, but since I bought an iPod, I thought I'd try out AAC, which is why I encoded with iTunes in the first place...

cdex does encode acc if you find the right encoder. Search their site and im pretty sure that there is a encoder there
