15 GB iPod / 50GB+ Collection

So I recently got a new (and free, which was extra nice) Compaq to upgrade form my lame eMachine which burt out on me. I backed up all my albums/live shows and so on...well, in the midst of it all, I got my iPod...so, since I've been busy/away from home lately, I've only put enough songs on there to fill half my iPod while the rest lie in wait on CD ROM for a full Saturday afternoon of re-uploading my music collection, orgainizing it and filling my iPod...as of right now, it's an "add as I go" thing...now that you have that wonderful background story, here's my point...my collection is about 50GB and growing every week or so...I use iTunes now to manage my Pod but I don't have anything in the iTunes library at the moment...I've just been dragging from explorer to the Pod via iTunes...now, should I even bother using iTunes as my library (I'm debating between that and the new WinAmp or MC9 which I hear raves about) if I can't sync my Pod with my library considering it's about three times the size of it, (unless there's some way to do so)? Since I don't trust iTunes to auto-sync anyway I might have already answered my own question...so I suppose my other "question" would be, what would the pros be to syncing my library once it's ready to go, or do I even have that option with the size issue? Does it help with Smart Playlists at all? Sorry to rant...boring day at work...be gentle...peace...

:)
