managing multiple libraries?
Over the years, I've managed to RIP my CDs to several different firewire harddrives. My wife and I each have an iPod, and this past weekend, I tried to consolidate my music altogether onto the iPod... on my wife's computer (I tend to do my music management at work these days, since that's where I do most of my music listening...).
What an adventure that turned out to be. I couldn't find a way of looking at JUST my music without all her stuff getting in the way. Likewise, I didn't want to cloud up her library with a bunch of crap she'd never want to listen to, and (which would also be unplayable, since the harddrives would no longer be attached to her computer!).
In the end, this is what I devised: create a playlist for JUST my music that I was importing for that session, and bring it into iTunes, do whatever management I need to, and then transfer the playlist contents to the iPod. Delete the stuff from the playlist (using option-delete to trash it from the library, too), and then move onto the next harddrive, repeating until all done, at which time I deleted the playlist altogether.
It would have been a lot easier if I could just "witch" from one library to another. I suppose one method of doing this (hindsight, you know), is to actually log in as a different user in OS X (of course; I'd have to CREATE a different user first).
Anyways; does anyone know of any other hacks to managing multiple libraries in iTunes (Mac or Windows) that doesn't involve logging in as a different user?
