Does your CD drive work with other media players - say, Winamp or Windows Media Player?

Yes it works with both.

And iTunes plays music from other sources - MP3 and AAC files already on your computer - without any problems?

If so, iTunes might be incompatible with your CD drive. Post your drive model up here, and maybe someone with the same drive will confirm whether it works.

Post your cd-drive info, and try to update your cd drivers also.

Good call, good call musicroom - a driver update rarely goes amiss when there's trouble afoot. ;)

The driver i have is a Samsung DVD-Rom SD-612. There are no updates for this driver. I checked.

the same thing happens to me, but i have an NEC drive, anyway if you look back at earlier posts, alot of people who own Samsung players are having the same the problem. the bad news is that no one has a clue how to solve the problem, so i have no fix for you, what i do is rip in .wav format using musicmatch then import these files into itunes and then convert them to AAC. its abit tedious, but if you have time on your hands it works fine

Just wondering if anyone is having problems using their Plextor Premium drive with itunes? My drive is extremely slow and stutters like crazy when playing cd's using itunes. Works fine with every other program I have. I also have a Liteon 52/32/52 in the same computer and it works OK with itunes.

Thanks Tombren,
That is the same thing I have been doing for a while now, but I've been using Music Center it is much faster then using musicmatch when ripping cd's. At least on my computer. You should give it a try.
