Question about iTunes and iPod
Hey all, I have a quick question about iTunes and my 3G iPod. I heard that you can transfer the song ratings that you make on the iPod into your iTunes music library. How do I do that? Also, is there any way I can save the On-The-Go playlist as a playlist in iTunes? Thanks for the help.

If you automatically update the iPod in iTunes then the song ratings get transferred automatically and if the On-The-Go playlist has been used then it is transferred to iTunes as a playlist called On-The-Go 1.

It didn't work. When I plugged my iPod in, it automatically sync'd my iTunes library with my iPod and over-wrote the ratings i had made in the iPod. Did I do something wrong?

Woah...
Are you saying that if you rate a tune on the iPod and then sync that the rating is NOT getting updated in iTunes? Really?
Not using iTunes anymore, but if that's true, that truly is not smart.
I was doing some testing to see how itunes handled the situation where a song was changed on both the iPod and in iTunes, and in that case, the iTunes rating always won (meaning the rating on the iPod was updated). But I figured that was because both versions of the song had their rating changed--one song had to win (iTunes or iPod).
But if you're saying that rating changes don't update iTunes at all, that really sucks. Are you sure you tried it on a song that you haven't changed the rating on in iTunes?
MC9 handles it this way:
The iPod's rating always wins unless both songs were changed since the last sync, in which case MC9's library rating wins.
This is the best way to do it IMO and how I thought iTunes was doing it.
Let me know could ya?

Yeah, here's what I did: I found a song that I had not rated AT ALL in iTunes, and then loaded it on my iPod. On my iPod, I gave it a rating of 3 stars. I then plugged my iPod in, and started the auto-sync. When it was done, I checked my library for the song: it still had no rating at all. So I took out my iPod and checked the same song on it: the previous rating I gave it was gone and now had no rating - just like in the iTunes library. I have a 3G iPod poster that lists a few features of the iPod, and this is what it says about it:
"A Rating System That Works Both Ways"
Use your iPod to rate songs instantly.
Smart Playlists will automatically updated
and synced to your Mac.
Not only should it update the rating in iTunes, but it should add the song to all applicable Smart Playlists inside of the iPod without even connecting it. I think I'll send Apple some feedback on this, I suggest other Windows iPod and iTunes users do the same.

Mine updates ratings just fine.
Have any of your ratings ever transferred from your iPod to iTunes?
# 7 Re: Question about iTunes and iPod
I also have no problems as far as ratings are concerned. Updates go both from 'Pod up to iTunes and vice versa.

It's always the change that was done last that is transferred in my testing.
Have seen no problems in the auto-sync feature...
