Does the song have to play all the way through for itunes to count it as played?
Is that why it doesnt seem to count all the songs ive played? i rarely let every second of a song play, so i was thinking maybe that is the reason

That's it exactly.
# 2 Re: Does the song have to play all the way through for itunes to count it as played?
that sux because i never really let the whole song play. Oh well

Yep, I never let it play either. A cheat? Yes I do have one, just click on the the scrubber and drag it all the way to the end and release, play count + 1 and next song!

Then it really hasn't been played has it :)
You could always scrub to just near the end and let the last couple of second play so you can get it counted as played. The entire song doesn't have to play, but the song has to end. So instead of hitting next in the middle of the song scrub to a couple seconds from the end and let it end.
I wouldn't want a song to count as played if I didn't listen to it all.

I guess so, but to add to that, you can drag it all the way, and it will count it, so you don't need to be precise about it.

I'm gonna have to test this some...because that is what I have been doing (moving slider to end of song), and I've noticed that Last Played is not getting populated.

I just tried what you said, and it populated the last played field. As far as I know its fool proof :D

I've learned to do this too...so now my "Last Played" playlist has songs on it.
It would have been nice for iTunes to compile this information when a song was loaded. For a time, I used to just push play and let the iPod select random songs from my entire collection. I would get certain songs that would come up quite often compared to others. It would be interesting for those "Times Played" results to be tabulated as a song is loaded, just so I could look for some sort of pattern. Oh well...the iPod is still great :D

Well for every person in that camp would be another person who didn't want this to happen like me. I only want it to be counted as played if I listen to it the entire way through. Why count something as played if you skip through it :D That's my opinion on it though.

YEah maybe a setting needs to be added "Played/ Slected" or "Played right through" or "played for a certain time"

Split the difference, count it as played when the song's been played halfway through.
That way you tick everybody off. :D

I do actually think halfway would be the best! :)
