Ive lost 3gb somewhere

I'm new here, hello.

I have iTunes 4.11.54 PC, 3G iPod 40gb v2.1 and I'm having problems. I've checked the threads on here and I couldn't find anything dealing specifically with the problem I'm having, so here goes.

I bought a 40gb iPod, yet when it's displayed in iTunes (or Explorer [using Explorer as a mounted drive or Anapod Explorer shell]) it shows 37.1gb total disk space. Now, I'm aware there may be a 1000 to 1024 conversion anomaly, but there's nearly 10% gone on the ol' hard disk. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

There are no other files stored on there, I've even tried updating and restoring to fix this.

Thanks for your help.

When a HD gets formatted it always ends up less then the actual storage space. My 20GB iPod had 18 and change with nothing on it.

My 10 GB has 9.2

It's normal.

It is the 1000 vs. 1024 anomoly. That's where it all goes. It's just a log of MB on a 40GB drive.

Thanks, Adam. I guess it's something I have to live with. I didn't realise it was getting to 10%, but hey! life goes on.
