maybe uncheck the check boxes in front of each song that you don't want updated ?

or do it manually.

Well, you don't have to manually copy the playlist to your pod. Just make the playlist and sync the pod. That should copy the playlist, not the songs.

It won't duplicate songs, sir.

I think one of two things are happening... either you think the songs are there already, but they aren't, and the iPod is copying them (cause it can't send a playlist if the songs aren't there to play)... or... it only looks like it's copying the songs, when in reality it's just updating the iPod about these songs being on a new playlist.

NOPE, all my songs are on the ipod, all 2583 of them. and my playlist is all songs that are from that 2583 library of songs. And it is copying them, because when i disconnect the ipod and browse it there are duplicates of all the songs that were on the playlist.

BUT, instead, im doing a sync (library & playlists) now, and that seems to be working right. We shall see if there are duplicate songs after its done.

Well, the sync copied all my songs to the ipod, but not he playlist. WTH! The only way im able to add the playlist to the ipod is to manually drag it to the ipod in itunes, but that makes duplicates of the songs! WTH!

Are you syncing the Ipod on Manual mode in Itunes, because I find it doesn't work as well as if you just set it to automatically mirror your itunes library. I do this and I have 4300 tracks and I've copied playlists with thousands of songs and it just put the playlist on there. It didn't copy. Try switching over to auto mode.

One suggestion would be to set up the playlist ON the ipod. To do this click on the ipod in the source window and select new playlist from the file menu. This will allow you to drag and drop songs from the iPod to playlists.

You can uncheck all songs on a list by command clicking the check box.

It sounds like to me an auto-sync is what you want and need to do because it sounds like you have your music still on your hard drive and want to simply mirror your itunes. If this is the case a simple autosync is for you.

ok, what solved the problem was making a new playlist in itunes, and dragging the contents of my old playlist to it, and then deleting the old playlist. then when i did sync it copied all my songs to the ipod and copied the playlist, no duplicates. for some reason there was something screwy with the old itunes playlist. well, problem solved. at least for now. thanks for the help.

Isn't there some way to share a playlist between the iPod and the library? I have pre-existing playlists on my iPod that I'd like in my Library, which contains all the same songs, but I can't seem to copy the playlist out. I understand why Apple doesn't want me to copy songs from the iPod to my computer, but why can't I copy a playlist?
