Questions about iTunes
I've been a ephod user for months now...and I consider it a great program, easy to use and quick.
iTunes on the other hand has been very fustrating. I have a few questions to clear up some things:
1.) If I edit a song title/track/whatever in iTunes, will it permenantly change it on the file itself? I want that because next time i transfer the song to my iPod again, I don't wanna change the name/track again.
2.) How the heck do I tell iTunes to send an *individual* or selected amount of songs to the ipod instead of "synching" with the entire library?
3.) Lastly, if I have lets say...10 songs in order on an album in iTunes. And they don't have the track numbers. Is there some way to make the track numbers go in order from 1 to 10 without doing it individually? Because I have a lot of albums which songs aren't in correct order, I have a lot of fixing to do :)
Thanks so much for any help (especially number 3) :)

# 1 Re: Questions about iTunes
1) Yes, it will change the mp3 tags of the file.
2) there's a button on the bottom right of the iTune Window that pops a iPod config dialog (I think when the iPod is selected in the playlist list) and in that dialog there's a series of choices, just select manual ipod update (or something like that, since I don't have itune here at work).
3) you should add the song number manually; adding a feature to add songs number automatically could be fun, but you will need to be able to manually re-order the songs in order for this to work.
Max.

1). If you edit the tag in iTunes it should edit the tag itself (meaning the saving it to the file). For, sure since it's changed in the iTunes library, it will get updated on the iPod and since that's how the iPod's database is populated (from the iTunes library)
2. Just drag and drop the songs to the iPod. You can do them in groups (i.e. grab an entire Genre/Artist or Album)
3. Can't fill from list order that I know of. I know this is a handy feature of a lot of tagging programs. Might want to first edit your track number tags in an external editor, then import the the tunes into iTunes.

Note if you are autosyncing there really isn't a way to move one or two songs at a time. No need to do that as things are synced as would be normally. You have to be set to manual update to drag files onto the iPod. (Not counting using the iPod as a firewire drive).
When theh iPod "syncs" it only updates what needs to be updated, thus why it is such a quick thing.
Be careful about jumping back between manual update and autosync. Remember when set to autosync if the file isn't in the library it will be deleted from the iPod on the next sync.
Get your track tags set up. Sure it takes some time, but in the long run it is what needs to be done because itunes uses this data in sorting!
Take the time to fix all your tags as you want them. It will make you iPod and iTunes experience much more enjoyable!

It did mine. I was blaming itunes for problems that I was experiencing, artist and albums out of sync, when it was the tags all along. Once I got the tags fixed, itunes has been my choice.

I am going to fix everything in my library first, *then* transfer to iPod. I think it will turn out good this time.
thanks for the help people.
