Slooooow transfer to iPod

Hi everyone,

I recently installed iTunes, and when I try to add music to my iPod, iTunes takes ages to upload each song and eventually hangs, and then I have to end it. I tried restoring my iPod (firmware 1.3) and upgrading to itunes version 4.1.1 but it didn't resolve anything. Ephpod works as usual, with rates around 6 mb/s and my firewire burner works well, so it can't be because of my firewire card.
Any idea on how to solve this?

Given what you've tried already, my next step would be to try closing all other applications before syncing and seeing if that affects the rate. That'll tell you if it's a resource bottleneck caused by iTunes' larger footprint.
