AAC vs MP3
Hey all - I am a new user of iPod (haven't even received my new 20GB yet). I am in the process of getting set up (just ordered Etymotic ER-4Ps). Regarding music, what is the suggested format for transferring cds to the iPod? I know nothing about AAC or MP3. If you were swtarting from scratch what format would you use?
Thanks
Erik

MP3 is the most widely spread format but if its only for personal use i would recomend AAC. It gives you the same quality with less space. Or better quality for the same space.

Much better worded.
AAC will apparently give you better quality at the same bitrate, but not a smaller filesize at the same bitrate.
Stay tuned for a huge AAC/MP3 information post from me, your eyes will bleed.....

Err... correct me if I'm wrong, but as I get it the bitrate indicates the amount of 'file' per second of audio - be it mp3 or aac/mp4. Therefore, the thing about mp4 is its reported ability to deliver better quality than an mp3 file of the same size .
I ask those who know to give a better explanation.
And on the same note - which aac fixed bitrate/variable setting delivers the same quality as --alt-preset standard?

the way i see it, mp3 is way better than mp3. Almost all palyers support it including the ever popular winamp. Winamp doesn't support aac and has no plans to in the future either. If space isn't an issue to you and you have more than you could ever need for your mp3's i highly recommend just sticking with a good quality mp3

I agree, MP3 is better than MP3 :P
Winamp does support AAC, but not officially, by the use of plug-ins.
