Purchased songs show up with no sound! Help!

I purchased an album from itunes using the itunes windows software. The album appeared in my purchased music folder as well as the library folder. I can play the songs from these folders just fine. After connecting to the ipod and drag-dropping the new album to the ipod I find that the ipod shows the album and all the tracks BUT when I play the album on the ipod it cycles thru all the songs as if they were of 0 length and then goes back to the main menu. I can play the songs using itunes when i click on the track in the IPOD folder. ANy ideas as to what must be going wrong?

Are you drag dropping through itunes or by dragging it to the ipod as an external harddrive?

Yes, I am using itunes to drag the album(all the tracks) from the libary folder to the IPOD folder. I notice that the tracks get copied over very quickly to the ipod(almost as if they were small songs...which they are not).

Are you set to update manually then? You need to drag the files from the library window (library selected as source) to the ipod in the source window, not to the ipod directly.

Yes, thats where I dropped the songs (the IPOD icon in the "source" window). All my music ripped from cds seems to be fine and i can hear it. The music i have bought from itunes seems be acting funny.

Thanks MikeM for the pic. I should Have tried to be a little more clear on what I was asking.

This seems to be beyond simple usage. The fact that they do play in itunes is interesting. Have you updated your ipod to the most recent software? Perhaps a restore is order? But perhaps before running to that run over to the music store customer service page and see if you can find a faq on your problem.

Try www.apple.com/support/musicstore/

Sorry I am not more direct help. Thanks for your patience with my questions :-)

Good Luck,
Stu

My guess is that you don't have the latest firmware. For 3G iPods, you need 2.1. For 1 and 2G iPods you need 1.3.

how do I know what firmware I am running? The "about" on the ipod says version 2.0.2. I have a 20Gb ipod. Is this the latest version?

That's the issue. You need 2.1.
