get poor quality imports sometimes

I am quite fustrated that I get some really bad quality imports now and then on some CDs. The audio is something like:

song ~~~~ buzz! song ~~~~ buzz buzz! fizz! song ~~~

Is there something wrong with my iTunes? Some of the CDs are admitedly old, but most are brand new and I just changed my CD drive just two months ago.

Say, if I wanted to copy a CD and I did not want to pass through the convertion to MP3 from iTunes because of its terrible quality, can I do it through toast?

You could try ripping the CD directly to AIFF in itunes and the burn. If this worked you may see if it is th encoder in itunes that is causing you trouble.

Don't know anything about toast really, but I suppose if you used toast and it still had problems you'd know it was the CD.

Good luck.

yup, tried with aiff, but it did not work.

i made an observation though, the buzzes happened exactly at the same place in the track! i tried using my brother's music match jukebox and it worked! as in, i do not get tracks that buzz or anything but the last track had errors which was fine on the mac. this is really confusing.

i suspect that this has got to do with the cd drive's speed, but i'm not sure really. my brother's cr driver's speed was 48X but i'm not sure of this mac, it is the lowest end dump i book i think. or is this i book's cd drive lens super sensitive or something? like you know, wince at the most microscopic scratch or something?

Have you tried selecting for error correction in the importing preferences?

This will reduce import speed, but if you are lucky will get read of the low quality.

Give it a shot.
