CDDB ALWAYS fails to retreive track info
Every CD I try to import fails to get any track info from CDDB - and no, I don't have any really off the wall stuff :). I see the little dialog box pop up saying it's trying to retreive the info, but it never returns anything.
Any ideas? Firewall? Any wany to check and see what it's looking up?
Thanks!

# 1 Re: CDDB ALWAYS fails to retreive track info
Same for me. Total CDDB failure, every time. Takes about 10 seconds to timeout, without error message, and then all tracks are sequentially listed (Track 1, Track 2...) with no metadata.
I know iTunes can see the net because I can browse the iTMS. Of course, being in Belgium I can't buy, but that's another story.
Are there known problems with ZoneAlarm, or are there certain ports that need to be open? Any help much appreciated!

I have ZoneAlarm running - I tried disabling it, and that had no effect.
Maybe it's time to fire up Ethereal and see what it's sending...

perhaps you only listen to really obscure music? :)

I think I may have figured it out - multiple network interfaces! I'm connected via ethernet now, and if I disable my wireless connection it seems to work just fine.
Can anyone else confirm?

Doesn't XP have a built in firewall whis enabled by default? I don't know which port CDDB uses. Is it port 80? if it isn't then you'll need to open that port.

Good thought - but I don't use the XP firewall.
I do have Zone Alarm, but that's not it either. I still think it has something to do with enabled, but inactive network interfaces - like iTunes is just picking the first one and using it.

Is your base station also a router?
# 8 Re: CDDB ALWAYS fails to retreive track info
I have a cable connection and no router and I am having the same problem. I disabled my other network adapter but it still does not find anything. It is not even sending out the request, there is no outgoing traffic being sent when I request the lookup. I turned off sygate pro and no results. I'm stumped.
# 9 Re: CDDB ALWAYS fails to retreive track info
Select the CD in the source pane on the left and choose Advanced>Get CD Track Names
# 10 Re: CDDB ALWAYS fails to retreive track info
I'm on a network, w/ a router, w/ wireless... No problems here at all. I'm on win2k. I put in a cd, 4 sec. later it labels everythign for me.

My bad. I was trying to look up tags on some files in my libary, like the supertagging function from MMJB. It didn't relize it only worked when ripping a CD. Thanks...;)
# 12 Re: CDDB ALWAYS fails to retreive track info
I have the same problem. Apparently it is Norton Internet Security that is causing it and this is with well known groups like Rage Against the Machine. I've tried turning it off but it still doesn't work.
Apparently the kind people at Symtec are sorting it out, even though it is Apples problem :)

# 15 Re: CDDB ALWAYS fails to retreive track info
My internet connection works on all other programs like MC9, MMJB, WMP9, Winamp, Real Player, Creative Playcenter...which all use CDDB. So it definetly is iTunes or iTunes conflicting with another program (Norton).
Maybe it is something to do with Gracenote CDDB...because none of the other programs say they use Gracenote.
Anyway, whatever the problem is Apple needs to fix it because this is happening to quite a few people.

I am having similar issues with Gracenote. If I try and connect from my PC, I fail. If I RAS inot my job and connect, it works. This is carzy!

From another post on this forum... Maybe it will help..
iTunes CDDB Fix!
The following was found in the Apple iTunes Dicussion Forum:

I've got an email from technical support which says:
I wanted to follow up with you on your trouble with CDDB getting track
names. Can you tell me what is in your registry for
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CDDB\Control\2.0"?
Does deleting this registry key and relaunching iTunes fix the problem?
This works for me, but i still need to try this at work.

It worked for me as well!
