The Deciding Factors for me

Hey all

Finally got iTunes to install after numerous problems (freezing at quicktime stage) and now i have had a bit of time to play with it...here is my two cents...

a) noticed a couple of people in the forum pointing out that it only write to f00 which leads to skipping problems...an ARSE

b) iTunes does not seem to have an option to follow shortcuts...this is important to me because as I have a smallish harddrive which is partitioned bang in the middle i cannot fit all my music on one drive in one folder so I NEED it split over the two. As far as i can work out, this makes syncing with iTunes impossible (if im wrong please tell me?). In Ephpod I can set it to sync with two folders (one main one, containing a shortcut to an extra one) by ticking the 'Follow Shortcuts' option, and this is clearly a better option. This leads on to point c)

c) as my music has to be split over two drives, i cannot put it all in the itunes music folder and let itunes organise it all, which i would be happy to do if i could. i read a post saying that the best option is to let the app do all the organising and filing and fiddly stuff, and you use itunes simply as a frontend to deal with your music. This is cool as there is no messing around with dir's and files. HOWEVER i cant do this. This aint a massive flaw in the prog, but it would be nice if you could set it do its organising in more than 1 folder, perhaps by setting the itunes directory as a kind of umbrella that encompasses two or more folders in different locations (the shortcut option mentioned earlier would do the job)
But perhaps i am being too demanding - music split over two harddrives may not be a common scenario for the majority of people :p

d) i had a couple of probs downloading large chunks of mp3s to my pod (crashes, freezes, ad infinitum), BUT i will give itunes the benefit of the doubt here as the pod had a seriously low battery and i stubbornly continued without recharging (non-powered firewire card) - that is probably the reason.

these aint major gripes obviously but they are enough to make me stick to eph for syncing. saying that, i love the itunes way of searching your music library and playlists etc, so i will stick to it for playing music on my pc. there are my thoughts. if i am wrong about anything here please set me straight! only been at itunes a few hours.
:D

hope you are all well guys
take care

having music in multiple locations shouldn't be a problem. Just uncheck the advanced options related to 'automatically organizing your music' and 'copy songs to itunes folder' - then just add your main directories one at a time, and all your songs will be added to your library without any problem.

hey man thanks for the reply.

Yeah I know that u can do them one at a time, but my point was that iTunes wont do its organising thing to both folders, only to the itunes music folder. so two folders on two drives doesnt allow u to use this function.

Right. I agree it would be cool if it were able to organize multiple folders instead of just the one. Suggest it to them:http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html, and in the meantime start saving for that new HD!
