Ratings in iTunes .. change ID3 tags?
Hey all,
Quick question about doing ratings in iTunes. Does it alter the ID3 tags at all when you rate a song? Or does it keep the ratings in a central file somewhere? I'm trying to avoid changing the mp3 files themselves at all (i.e. don't change the id3 tags), but I would like to use ratings...thanks for your help!

anyone? Bueller..? Bueller..?

It stores them in a separate iTunes library NOT in the ID3 tags.
Intelligent question, by the way.

Thanks...i didn't think I had found my answer anywhere. Appreciate the response! I'm assuming that if I don't want to accidentally change the mp3 files at all (id3 tags), that in addition to unchecking "organize itunes library" and "copy files into itunes folder", that making the files "read-only" would be sufficient.
That make sense?

If I'm correct, "Organize iTunes Library" won't change the ID3 tags either, it arranges them via folders/filenames based on the ID3 tags.

Fair enough...guess I'm doing that one to avoid changing my folder structure as well. Thanks though! :)

Consider "giving in" and letting iTunes manage the files. I used to use all sorts of taggers and organizers for an elaborate organization. Recently I just enabled "Organize iTunes Library" and I'm loving it.

sorry, not gonna happen anytime soon...my structure needs to stay the same for several other apps. I really don't see the need for it. MusicMatch allowed me to do the same...it would have its own structure to use for ripping new songs, but you could have links to other folders and not change their structure.
In fact, a huge advantage to MusicMatch is if you want to delete *any* mp3 in your library (whether it be in the "MusicMatch" folder or any other folder), you could delete it within MusicMatch, and it would ask if you wanted to delete the actual mp3 itself and not just the link in the library.
As far as I can tell, iTunes will only do this for songs you have in the "iTunes folder"...less convenient.
I also already miss the "watch folders" feature of MusicMatch...yeah I know I can just drag over my main folder of tunes into iTunes and it will only copy over new ones. But that's not true for deleting files, and I liked just clicking a button to do this instead of dragging over folders.

Interesting system you have there.
I mainly just like to listen to the music. ;)

alright... the thing is i have a bunch of music on my computer and some of it isnt tagged right. For example some of the songs dont have the artist and some dont have album and some just give the whole description in the title. I have about 1200 of these songs and i need a program that will fix them:-/. I just want to let the program run and finish it for me. any suggestions?
