How to rip CD?

Ok, I like iTunes to much, brushed aluminum is much better than mirror polished steel. I think Apple should adjust look of two parts. So, now I want to get all my collection in AAC, but when I insert CD nothing happens. Yes, iTunes eject button works fine, but all CD ripping options grayed, any ideas?

Make sure you have the CD selected in the itunes source window. You should then be able to click on the import button on the top right of itunes.

Hmm... Well it should automatically show up there when you put it in your CD-Rom drive. Does it not? Put a CD into the drive and see what happens. It sometimes takes a moment.

i can rip cds fine, but there's one small problem i haven't figured out:

when i'm done encoding one cd i eject it either manually or with itune's eject button. then i insert a new cd. the new cd, however, does not show up in the left-hand playlist section. i have to close the itunes window and restart itunes in order for the new cd to show up.

any ideas as to how i can get itunes to automatically recognize newly inserted cds without having to restart the program?

i run itunes on win xp, btw.
