When first released it was possible, then they put in an update to prevent it. I believe (though am not certain) somebody hacked something but you won't see links to that here.
Doubt if anyone has done it for iTFW yet.

If the two machines are networked, have itunes installed, and the prefs turned on, the libraries should be visible to each other.

yes, that's right, works fine for me, but : my mp3 server (with iTunes running) is at home, my notebook (without any mp3's) is at school, for example. how to access my mp3's at home connected to the internet via cable modem (always online)? that was the question, for example.
There is a patch for iTunes Mac, enabling the share over internet, but I never heard of one for the Windows version, so we'll have to wait...

Have you tried setting up a VPN(Virtual Private Network)? Both computers would need to be running WinXP/2000 for a software VPN. This link should get you started:

Aye, I remember folks having gifs in their signatures that said "iTunes Sharing On" -- you could click it and get connected. They put in a block for that?
That's a wee bit mentally-challenged, in my opinion. I mean, it's a streaming server, why did they decide to cripple it to local area networks only?

because of copyrights. it would be possible to catch the stream and so everybody could get everybodys library. sharing MP3's is one thing, but sharing thousands of MP3's accessible via a nice GUI? hmm... :)
jup, with iTunes 4.1 Apple limited access to LAN only, but there is a crack or patch, however you want to call it...

I've often used BadBlue (free) as a super-easy way to share over the Internet. There are very few frills, but it's a piece of cake to get going.

I'm looking for a way to access my iTunes share from another place than in my LAN. I think VPN can do the job, although I didn't figure it out yet. since I'm ill I can't get outside the office (where I live) and try if my VPN connection works. here, locally, it doesn't work, I get the 733 error and I don't know if it is, because I'm actually IN the network and not outside...
I'll see on monday...
