Tagging Downloads
I have a bunch of files that I downloaded off of Kazaa awhile ago. They are currently filenamed "Artist - Song Name." When I import them into iTunes "Artist - Song Name" appears in the Artist column. Is there any way to get iTunes to recognize the filename and sort it appropriately?

No, you'll have to batch edit the tags in iTunes. Highlight the songs, right click and select Edit Info (or whatever it is to get to the tagging screen). Not too fond of their tagging methodology.

You can also use ID3 Tag-IT which makes batch tagging large amounts of files pretty easy.
I had to go through the same thing and ID3 Tag-It was a pleasure.

I agree, you should use tag it before starting using any iPod software.

But see, that's what's so silly to me. As a media player, iTunes should support tagging and batch tagging and do it well.
We shouldn't have to be recommending 3rd party apps.
'Course it's free so I guess it can't do everything....

Definitely agree with your comment about tag management. Being new to the 'mac' world with an IPOD after retiring my nomad, getting used to the 'anti-windows' world is challenging.
So far, iTunes has not recognized via CDDB any of my 1700 songs. At least MMJB+ had a pretty decent search engine for finding songs based upon minimal input - although it wasn't complete. WMP9 has a much better tagging and searching capability.
I also haven't found an easy way to move album art from one song to another when the album art is embedded in an MP3 ID3V2 tag.
I'm probably missing something that is obvious to others...

I recommend Tag & Rename ( http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm). Great program for editing a lot of mp3s at once. It helps to have a consistent directory/filename structure in the first place, though.

Well, iTunes supports getting the proper tags from CDDB when you rip a disk. And, the iTunes Music Store songs are properly tagged. KAZAA is 99.999% illegal, poorly tagged, poorly ripped material.
