Duplicates in library

If you rescan a folder Itunes puts duplicates in your library.
Doesn't that kind of uummm...suck? Even Windows Media Player doesn't duplicate a track.
Is that intentional on Apple's part? Why would anyone want two copies of a song in their library?

What do you mean by rescan Gert? This term is new to me? I have never had a duplicate track in my itunes (mac) the entire time I have used it.

Cheers,
