Transferring from iPod to computer?
Does iTunes for Windows allow you to copy music from your iPod back to the computer?

No. They don't want you doing that, so you'll have to use a 3rd party tool.

And I'm assuming there are no third party tools yet, since it's about, oh, two and a half hours old? (What's taking so long, people!)
Can I use iTunes to send to the iPod and Ephpod or something else to get songs back off of it? I've got a bunch of stuff I'd like to listen to on my iPod occaisionally, but not permanently store on it.

ephPod is a third party tool (free) which does uploads, and I plan to keep using it.

Well, I'm currently using EphPod, too. But I'm not that happy with it. I was hoping I could switch to iTunes. But I won't switch, because you can't move files off the iPod.

Xplay, ephpod, mc9, anapod, windows explorer all work to get your tunes off the iPod.

I don't see any songs with Windows Explorer.

I'm using itunes and I love it, but I do occasionally get a track or two off of my friends and onto my ipod, and I wanted to use a program to transfer the song to my PC. I've went through windows explorer before, but it seems a bit tedious to have to go through 20 folders trying to find 1 file.
Are there any small and FREE programs you can suggest? I'm assuming ephpod, but I've never used it before, and I was wondering if it was a big program or not.

In itunes, if you have it set to copy files to itunes music folder in prefrences, and you also have show hidden files under tools folder options, you can use itunes to copy songs from ipod to itunes library much the same way as in explorer.
Go to the file menu in itunes, select and file to library, under the drop down box click your ipod, go to the ipod control folder, music then go through those 20 folders to get the music.
Not very help full to get single tracks but for backing up your entire ipod it is good.

Folks, have you not heard of Podutil? This is probably the best utility yet for getting your files off your iPod onto any computer. Go get it:

I tried PodUtil without success. I don't know what I was doing wrong. I checked only the one song I wanted to copy, and I specified where I wanted it to copy the song...It said the task was complete, but then I couldn't find the file in the folder I specified.
