I need help...
Okay, everybody, I need help. My dad is buying me an iPod and he believes that I am too spoilt and "not happy with just the iPod" because I told him I need a case.
PLEASE help me to convince him that a case is HIGHLY needed. I want to show him this thread in order to show that...
Thanks heaps...

Come on! People reply please! I want to order them soonish so I can get the 2 for 1 iskin thing.
# 2 Re: I need help...
dear becstar93's dad,
if i told you i didn't need a case would you buy me another iPod? lol : )
it's a good idea to get a decent case, though not necessary, just like for a mobile phone. the apple case that comes with doesn't really inspire much confidence, but there are probably enough people who do use it. personally i got my case before the iPod and am glad that i've got it even though i'm very careful with it.
and the iskin deal is pretty good - it's not like you're asking for a gucci case (...yet!)

heres what you do. You need to completely become scratch phobia free before you get the thing. Then take it to a countertop or something in your house if front of your dad. Put pressure on the front aes you drag the back along. Then show off your new scratches. Tehn tell him that you want the front of your pod to be protected (as well as the back) and that a case is vital to this.

Dear Mr Other Persons Dad
iPod scratches like you wouldn't believe...
I for one wouldn't want a ?300 peice of kit to look like crap when it could be so easily avoided...
They don't cost that much, if you consider that you've already paid loads for the iPod... paying a little extra to keep it looking good isn't really that bad. It's not a nessesity, the iPod WILL work without it... I just think it's nice to have a little pride in ones posessions.

I'd say that you just need to explain to him that it's just a bit of extra protection for what is a pretty expensive piece of equipment. The eXos aren't exactly hugely expensive.
Perhaps you could tell him that keeping it scratch-free will increase it's resale value should you ever want to sell it?;)
Seriously, I wouldn't consider taking my pod out and about without its eXo skin on - because I want to keep it looking nice, so of course I would agree with you.
Maybe you should offer to do some jobs around the house or something? :p
# 6 Re: I need help...
You defently need the case just in case u drop it or something to give it protection i use two cases i have a incase trifold and then i slide in in a small camera case that i carry all the cords and earbuds and chager in .

....everybody loves a bargain - even your dad I'm sure. Show him the 2 for 1 special at www.lajo.biz and if that's not a good enough reason - well Dad these iPods scratch if you breath on them so I think it's a small price to pay to protect such an expensive piece of equipment.
# 8 Re: I need help...
... You're getting a free iPod and aren't willing to pony up the dough for a protective case yourself?
Most cases aren't that expensive, and if your father is willing to spend upwards of $500 on an iPod for you, I can't see why he wouldn't want to pay a little bit extra to ensure it stays safe.
However... If I were you I'd just get it myself. Don't look a gifthorse in the mouth. ;P

She's 14?
What you want her to do? It's more than likely she doesn't have a job etc...
I remember how hard it was to get money sometimes at that age...

allowance? skip going to the movies 2-3 times and buy yourself a case.

I guess it all depends on availability of work and what your work ethic is.
For example:
We never had a lot of extra money in my house, and any non-necessity items that I wanted were payed for by myself from chore/errand money... or from working for my neighbors.
I was buying all sorts of new gaming consoles (PSX, N64, whatever was out at the time) at the age of 14. They ranged anywhere from $150 to around $300 a pop... plus controllers and games.
If my parents had bought me a new Playstation or whatever at the time... I would have taken it as an extremely appreciated gift and not complained if it didn't come with accessories. What's spending $30 on something extra when you're already getting a freebie?
When you're getting an expensive gift... I think you should be thankful, and not begging for more. But kids today are a bit different. And kids who are used to big gift items or never really worked to earn anything might not see it the same way. Ah, to feel old at 18. I never thought I'd see the day.
The point is, yes it can most certainly be done at 14. All it takes is some dedication to get what you want.
Babysitting is a 14 year old girl's best friend. An exo would be roughly equal to two weekends babysitting, depending on the hours/pay. I think our friend here could buck up and earn one for herself. In the end it really does make a difference. I know I'd appreciate something I actually earned far more than a freebie tossed my way.
And if she doesn't, and her father buys her both items... I should hope she'd be very thankful. Not everyone is so fortunate.

yeah, I don't have a job. But, I gave him $50 of my own and said "Okay, I just need to use your credit card" and I was going to pay for the case, but he said that 'money isn't the issue' and he wants to pay for it but just thinks that I'm being greedy wanting a case when there are people starving in ethiopia etc etc.
But anyways, iPod is ordered. The lady at the Apple Shop is going to look on the internet for a good case for me, and then is going to ring me to pick one out. I am very greatful.
Thanks for everyone's help by the way!! :)

Happy to hear it worked out for you. :D
(And glad that you offered to pay your own way with the case, very responsible!)
Enjoy your new iPod!
