UK/US iPod volume

I'm thinking of getting an iPod for Xmas and live in the UK. I've read a couple of reviews that expressed concern about the low volume output of the UK iPods - can anyone with a UK model confirm whether they've found this to be a problem? Is it worth me tracking down a US model (which apparently have an 'uncapped' volume), and are there any disadvantages to getting a US iPod rather than a UK one (warranty/technical issues etc)?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated...

Unless you work with a pneumatic drill or under the wheels of a train it's not worth it. The highest volume is plenty IMHO

No disadvantages to a US model, except that you don't get the right AC adaptor, though you can get one by buying the World travel kit, or can use less elegant work-arounds.

And the difference in volume is significant.

How can I check whether my volume is capped?

I trried usign iLinkPod to remove the volume cap, but it said it wasn't capped, let I *did* buy it in the UK so it mist be, right? Right?

Any ideas on this?

If the US volume is higher, can anyone suggest the best way of getting my hands on a US model?

the volume cap removal doesn't work on 3G ipods - says so on the FAQ page of the ilinkpod website.

Follow this link:

euPOD boosts the volume on EU ipods a treat. One of the best free apps I've ever come across.

unless you know someone in the US who can buy you one and send it over or you or anyone you know is going over to the US anytime soon then as Marwood suggested the best way is ebay.

I bought my 40gb ipod from a US based seller on ebay, took a few weeks to come but it came to about ?270 including postage, a huge saving against the UK recommended retails price and best of all I didn't get stung for taxes either ! :D

Still not got my ipod yet, lots of debating and penny pinching going on at the moment. The option of buying in the US looks attractive saving ?100 on a 40gb with the good exchange rate. Are there any compatability or warranty issues to be aware of?

Seriously the volume on UK/European iPod's is all hype.

I bought mine from the UK iPod store (3G 10GB) and that's loud enough to hear the track clearly in a silent room on full volume with the earphones by your waist if you get me. People who need it louder have obviously f*cked up their hearing already which entirely why there's a cap!
