CD to ipod

Hey,
This has probably been asked a thousand times, but is there a way of puttin cds onto ipod without havin to store them in itunes, cos its a bit pointless and a waste of valuable space (especially if you have a lot of cd albums - I have over 200)

quit using 'sync'. instead add/delete songs manually onto the ipod. then erase the mp3's off your computer.

No, you can't do that. What I do is rip a bunch of CDs, and once I have 4GB or so worth of music, I just burn all the files to CD-Rs and delete the files off my hard drive.
