transfer process

i will be getting a G3 30gb soon and im wondering about how the transfer process works.
is it as simple as poping a cd in your computer drive and then transfer? or do you have to do more?
how exactly does the process work?

You rip the album, then you transfer the songs (automaticly if you want).

Hi,

It's really easy. Apple recommends iTunes for both mac or windows but you are free to use another application to rip (transfer songs from CD to computer HD) Check out lots and lots of options (http://www.ipodlounge.com/links.php)

When you buy your ipod you will get software with the package but you can also download to one of your choice from the internet.

The transfer or rip time depends on the CD, but I'd say it takes about 10-15 minutes for a 12-track CD. Transferring to the ipod takes a matter a seconds.

iPods come with iTunes for both Mac and Windows now - you 'rip' the CD by converting it to MP3/AAC format then you transfer it to the iPod. All very easy with iTunes.
The average CD takes about 5 minutes to 'rip' - then seconds to transfer if you are using a firewire connection between your computer and the iPod.

I'd say it depends more on your computer and how fast your CDROM drive is. I've got a P4 2.4 GHz with a 52x CD drive and it only takes a minute or two to rip at 192k, and about 5 or 10 secs to actually transfer to the iPod.

Actually my new iPod arrived direct from Apple this week, and it did not include iTunes for Windows, but rather MusicMatch, and the manual was outdated as well. Of course anyone can just download iTunes, but it seems it will be a little while before new installation CDs and manuals make their way into distribution.

Yep, I bought mine days ago, no iTunes, 2.0.2 firmware, outdated manual.
