Key Fail

Anyone know what a "key fail" in ipod's diagnostics, means? My ipod passed all the tests but this one.
For some reason- my laptop or pc does not recognize my ipod anymore. It did for months with out issue. Nothing has been added/deleted to either machines. I tried different fire wire cables, and even used the firewire card and belkin pcmcia fire card. The 2 g ipod charges but is not recognized. i tried resetting all day and night- i charged it and drained the battery. I have run out of solutions. Again, this worke fine. i didn't drop the ipod. All the machines have all the latest drivers and updates on the OS and software side. Weird!

Never mind- I found the answer -
KEY - allows 5 seconds to press all buttons, if any don't respond or time expires it fails- thanks to www.ipoding.com

the key test is a test of all the ipod buttons...

press every button once in a 5 second time limit... if not, it says key fail.
