ipod bridge between platforms

As many of you know, the ipod's a great, sweet little hard drive. I discovered that it's possible to move files from mac (10.2) to pc (xp)with the thing pretty much right out of its fancy little box. Not music files but everything else (haven't actually tried music files between platforms).

I use a split cable for my 3G 10gb ipod -- the cable has that 3G ipod plug on it, plus two tails, one usb and one firewire. I often use the firewire cable at home to put the fatty powerpoints on the ipod from my cube, then lecture off the universitie's xp notebook hooked to the ipod via usb.

Now here's the question: What would happen if the fire wire ran to the mac and the USB ran to the PC simultaneously? Would they just share the drive?

Has anyone done this?
