how to update ipod to 2.1 without cable ??

A friend on mine has just bought a G3 ipod, but his PC does not have firewire... so he has just bought the usb2 cable to connect his ipod to his PC.

BUT !! on the apple site it say you need to have 2.1 software on the ipod to use this cable, and his ipod is 2.0.1 - how can he update the software on the ipod if he has no firewire to update it to 2.1 ??

Any ideas ?

you can update to 2.1 using the usb 2.0 cable. i?ve used an ipod running 2.0.1 with the usb cable, so it doesn?t only work for 2.1 .
