Shuffle Albums?
I can't quite figure out how the shuffle albums feature works--or doesn't.
If I go to Browse and start playing a song from a particular album, as sooon as the songs in that album are finished playing...the iPod quits playing music altogether.
How do I have the iPod play all the songs in the selected album, and then move on?
Thanks!

Upping this because I'm in the same situation. Shuffle is turned on for albums yet when one finishes it just takes me back to the menu to choose another one.
Also, from this; if I were to turn 'Shuffle' off and an album finished, would it just return to the menu or automatically play the next album (assuming I was browsing by Album)?

You have to have selected a number of albums. If you browse to one song on one album, it's just going to play that album.
So, try Browse>Artist (select and artist) then do All. That should start the first song and then go through the Albums of that Artist.
You could do the same thing by broswe>genre (select genre)>all

Aight mate - cheers for letting us know. Browse > Genre it is!

I've got a similar question: what I really want to do is go through a set of albums randomly, but in order on the album. That is ... I just loaded a bunch of stuff on my iPod, all with genre "Christmas". I don't want to hear, say, the Messiah in random order, but would like to hear it, and then some other random Christmas album.
I'm doing Browse>Genre>Christmas, but then just get a list of song titles - which is OK, but I'd like to hear them by album?
Thanks,
chris

This is what we're talking about. You should be able to Browse>Genre>Christmas and select All, select the first song from the first album you want to hear. As long as Shuffle>Albums is on, it will shuffle randomly through the albums, it will start with the album you selected, then it will pick another album from the Genre you selected.

I originally started this thread, and I do understand how the iPod works, but it's really not optimal.
I have something like 200 Classical CDs worth of music loaded on my iPod. So suppose I want to start listening to Beethoven's 5th symphony and then move on to a random album.
This is almost IMPOSSIBLE. In fact, it is impossible to find the right starting point because you have to go:
Genres->Classical->All
and then, from that mess of 1500 tracks, find the first movement of Beethoven's 5th symphony. It just shows the titles of the tracks, and since the iPod's designers were too asinine to scroll long names (for example, Betthoven 5th Symphony, 1st Movement" wouldn't fit as a song track) the song tracks need to have "short" names. (see another post I had about that).
If I browse by Composer it's easy to find, but then after it's finished playing Beethoven's 5th it just stops.
This clearly is not ideal but there's not really a way around it.
The shuffle mechanism and the long-names issue are what make me really hate the iPod sometimes...I would do anything to remedy both of these issues.

Well, you reach a certain point where a playlist is the best way to go.
You can make on-the-go playlists too. Just select the Album you first want to hear, and hold down the center button, it'll be added. Then select the 2nd Album and do the same, continue until you're done.
Or, make a Smartplaylist based on Genre.

Aha, now I get it. I wasn't selecting All (twice, actually - once to get to album, once to get to tunes). It doesn't work to select an album, then hit play or select a tune - that just plays the album.
And I agree, this is not optimal. But at least I can get it to work! Thanks.
