battery life paranoid

hi,

i bought my 3g 20GB ipod about a week ago. with all my music, i still don't have it all set up. the main reason i'm writing though is to ask about the battery.

i'm very paranoid when it comes to irreplaceable rechargeable batteries. my laptop battery which used to last 3 hours now only lasts 1.

have you all found that your battery truly lasts 8 hours even after owning it for a long time? is it okay to re-charge the battery when it's only halfway drained or does it develop a "memory problem"? does the 80% in 1 hour thing really hold true? thanks in advance for any responses.

You will get between 6 and 8 hours of use depending on your fiddling with the menus as you let it play.

Battery memory is not a factor with this type of battery.

And you can already get replacement batteries for Gen 1s and Gen 2s. By the time it's an issue you will for the Gen 3 too.

I get about 6 or 7 hours out of my ipod. I have the backlight on the 10 sec. timer and I do very little fiddeling while songs are playing.

It's true, you will want a new ipod by the time your battery starts to die. Everything i've read says you should get a solid 2 to 3 yrs out of this battery.
Heck, broken scratched up ipods go on ebay for $200 so if 2 yrs from now the battery starts to fade..sell it and get 60-80% of your money back towards a new one. this was a major fear for me also as I kept reading that the battery starts to fade after a year or LESS...but that is not true it seems.
