I am also considering one but I'm a little worried that the sound is coming from the headphone jack not the line out. Is that what you understand?

you are right...the signal does come from the headphone jack...why would that concern you

The line out signal from the bottom connector (as via the dock) bypasses the headphone amp so is a bit cleaner. Unfortunately the only other way of getting this Line out signal (the Belkin Car adaptor) is also corrupted by a cheap amplifier.

In practice, however, you'll only be able to hear the difference on a pretty good car set up I'd guess.

No, because it takes the sound from the headphone socket, you're using the iPod's headphone amp instead.

Ill write a review of one for you guys. Ill be using it in a car with a high quality audio system, and ill compare it to the dock, the belkin auto kit, and an fm transmitter

You could even throw in the iTunes thinggy for completeness. Now that really is a public service!
